AI will have an impact across all sectors and jobs will go - but many things will be done better
"I think the jobs issue is a very serious one," Ng said, adding that there are all sorts of jobs "in the crosshairs" of AI. "I do think we are facing, and we will face, increased labor displacements."
Stuart Russell, professor of computer science at the University of California at Berkeley, said AI is not far away from being on the same level as humans.
For Russell, this is a graver concern than employment. "Think about what it means for an incredibly intelligent machine to be given an objective," he said. "It is going to do anything in its power to achieve the objective that you gave it."
Russell said we need to stop thinking about AI as an all-encompassing, all-purpose intelligence and start thinking about it as a tool that can maximize human values.
